CINDY SOLDA, Councillor, City of Port Alberni
Councillor Cindy Solda was first elected as a Councillor for the City of Port Alberni in September, 2001. Cindy has been through four elections and has been the only female to serve on Council for the last six years. Although Cindy has been assigned to many committees throughout the years, responsibilities presently assigned to her by Port Alberni Mayor Ken McRae include:
Planning, Health and Protective Services (Fire, Police, Animal Control, Building Inspection, Planning)- Member of Exemption, Grants and Licences Committee
- Liaison with Advisory Planning Commission
- Liaison with the Emergency Program
- Liaison to Continuing Care Societies (seniors)
- Liaison with Community Stakeholders Initiative on Homelessness
- Member of Personnel Committee
- Court of Revision
- Alternate to Regional District
Cindy attended the theatre program at Malaspina College and the University of Victoria. Directed, produced, and acted in many productions. A professional auctioneer since 1972 working with her parents in the family business. Auctioneer now for charities. Worked in many different fields until she married and than worked with her husband and his family in their restaurant for 20 years. Cindy started a promotional company bringing high profile entertainers/bands to Port Alberni and donating all proceeds to local non-profit societies. Deciding to run for council and won, Cindy focused has focused on municipality politics for the past ten years.
Cindy has three kids. Pietro just graduated from Vancouver Island University majoring in Criminology with a minor in psychology. He is a Captain with DND and teaches cadets. Carlo will be graduating from Vancouver Island University and will be entering medical school. He is a Lt. with DND and teaches cadets. Natasha is a manager at a local restaurant and graduated from Discovery College with a certificate in Long Term Care.
