Biography 2012-13 Electoral Area Representative

 

MARY MARCOTTE, Director, Cowichan Valley Regional District

•  I am married with two adult children;
•  My husband and I own and operate a small home based business;
•  The family has resided in Yellow Point area, north of Ladysmith, for thirty years;
•  I have been active in the community as a volunteer for almost thirty years;
•  I was first introduced to local politics and planning issues when I was asked to serve on the local Advisory Planning Commission in 1980s;

  • In 1996, I was elected as the Electoral Area Director for Area H, North Oyster/Diamond in the Cowichan Valley Regional District;
  • I was acclaimed as the CVRD Area H Director in 1999, 2002 and 2005 and re-elected in 2008;
  • Over the years, I have served on of most of the Cowichan Valley Regional District committees and served as Chairperson of the Electoral Area Services Committee as well as other CVRD committees;
  • In 2003, I was elected Chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District Board and Chair of the Hospital Board – I served as Chair for three years;
  • As Chair, I traveled to Kumasi, Ghana to head a Municipal Partnership Mission between Canadian International Development Agency, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Cowichan Valley Regional District and African Local Government Associations;
  • Through my travels among the Islands and along other BC coastal areas, I have acquired first hand knowledge about Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities and what matters to them;
  • I have always been a strong advocate for rural directors;
  • At the 2008 Convention, I was elected as your AVICC Electoral Area Representative and have been re-elected three time; and
  • I am dedicated to serving you and committed to addressing Electoral Area issues by working through AVICC and UBCM.
