The AVICC Executive may establish special committees by resolution. At the 2022 AGM & Convention, AVICC members endorsed a policy on advocacy, further directing the Association on the type of advocacy work the association should do on behalf of members. Members directed AVICC that they should no longer facilitate committee work as part of their Advocacy mandate.
In September 2014, the AVICC hosted, in partnership with nine regional districts, a solid waste management workshop that led to the establishment of the AVICC Special Committee on Solid Waste Management in 2015 with representatives from 9 regional districts.
In 2023, in line with the direction from members on advocacy, AVICC worked with the 9 participating regional districts to transition the Committee to a member-led committee called the Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities Committee on Solid Waste and Circular Economy.
