More frequent and more stringent commercial vehicle inspection and testing for vehicles travelling Vancouver Island Highways and specifically those vehicles carrying hazardous (HazMat) material. 2. Funding and support for a HazMat Response Team m, to be located on Vancouver Island, central to the identified highway corridors, on a 24/7/365 basis, or: 3. A demand that an industry HazMat Response Team be located on Vancouver Island and supported by the Industry transporting HazMat product on Vancouver Island. 4. Funding for fire departments, which respond to highway related HazMat incidents, to address equipment and training. 5. Support for local governments to recover costs associated with response to HazMat incidents on Vancouver Island, especially for those incidents that occur outside of municipal boundaries.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the AVICC make urgent and strong representation to the provincial government to exclude the sale of BC Hydro assets from any government measures to balance the budget, to prevent the deregulation of pricing and supply of energy, to recognize the importance BC citizens attach to the legacy of ownership and 4entitlement in this core infrastructure asset, and to adopt reasonable and predictable policies that will ensure continuing responsible management of this vital public utility on behalf of BC citizens;
