Director at Large
Vickey Brown
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the members of AVICC, Thank you! I have lived my whole life in Coast Salish territory and have been in the Village of Cumberland since 1998, my family has deep roots in Cumberland and I am thrilled to have the privilege to serve as the Mayor, I am also a director on the Comox Valley Regional District Board and really enjoying learning about how Regional Districts work and the challenges they face.
I came to Local Government after a career in the non- profit sector; largely with Farmers’ Markets. That, along with a BA in Environmental Studies and Political Science lead me to pursue a diploma in Community Economic Development and then a Public Leadership Credential so that I could build in advocacy – especially around food security and land/water stewardship.
I have always looked to build connection and partnerships to learn about issues and increase the impact of my work. I was elected twice to my local Credit Union Board, spending 6 years there, at the same time, I was elected to the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets Board and spent 3 years as chair of that amazing organization.
My entry into local government was born out of my work as Chair of our Community School Society, and I was elected as school trustee in 2014, then Council in 2018 and Mayor in 2022. I also very much enjoy my role on the Island Coastal Economic Trust Board, spent 3 years on the UBCM Police Modernization Roundtable and was elected as Director at Large to UBCM in 2025.
I am so grateful to spend time each day in the Cumberland Forest with my fur beast Leo, on the land of the peoples now known as K’ómoks and continue to learn from them as I do my best to do good work on their lands.
The AVICC acknowledges that we are grateful to live, work, and play on the traditional territories of theCoast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth and Kwak-Waka’wakw Peoples
